Just a short post today. With the US government shutting down it seemed appropriate to highlight a Harvard Business Review article, which provides a strategy to fix health care in the US (and even outside!).
What is interesting is that Michael Porter and others call for an overarching goal of value. This would be a normative goal instead of the gain goal, which is prevalent today. Porter writes:
“In health care, the overarching goal for providers, as well as for every other stakeholder, must be improving value for patients, where value is defined as the health outcomes achieved that matter to patients relative to the cost of achieving those outcomes.”
It would be nice if our political parties and leaders would also be able to move from a gain goal to a normative goal.
